Summary

Summary
A declaration on cave protection having been introduced to the European parliament by the European speleological federation delegates, as well as directions how to prepare an annual report of a speleological club of the SSS for the year of 2008, were arranged by the editorial board right at the introductory part of the 4th issue of the Bulletin of Slovak speleological society. Contributions on home karst localities fill the relevant space in the issue. P. Magdolen writes on the Veľké Prepadlé cave system in the Low Carpathians Mts., which has reached the length of 1775 m. P. Holúbek summarizes results of a ten years lasting exploration of the Cave of zlomiská (10 511 m) in the Ján valley in the Low Tatras Mts. Speleological perspectives of the deepest cave system in Slovakia – the Hipman´s caves (-495 m) are laid out by M. Jagerčík. The following two articles are devoted to activities of cavers operating in the area of the Vrátna-valley in the Low Fatra Mts. (authors: P. Cvacho and J. Dubravay). L. Vlček, I. Kubíni and D. Hutka, members of the Speleoclub Tisovec, inform about further progressions in the interesting Cave of two friends and about the Silvia-cave in the Muráň plateau. The last mentioned of the authors has also written an article on recovering the spring of the Good water. Caves in the Slovak paradise national park present a theme of the next two contributions – new caves are described here by F. Miháľ, and a tracing experiment in Stratená cave (the second longest one in Slovakia) is presented by J. Tulis and D. Haviarová. This part of the Bulletin is concluded by contributions on the pseudokarstic Steve´s cave in the Levoča Mts. (Š. Kyšela and T. Máté), caver´s memories by P. Strečanský from Handlová and with a reflection on karst landscape destiny not only in Slovakia presented by P. Holúbek. Being devoted to caves abroad is an article by O. Štos from the Kota 1000 association telling us about descending the world second deepest vertical Patkov gušt in Slovenia (-553 m); a list of the another well-known world deepest verticals is added to the article as well. The reviews of the books Max Wisshak: “Inside Mother Earth” and Tony Waltham: “Great Caves of the World”, also “Gates to the Lost world” on caves of Venezuela table mountains written by well-known Czech speleologist and photographer Marek Audy, as well as the first issue of the new magazine Jamar (The caver) from Slovenia follow.. The end of the Bulletin is devoted to a celebration of the 60th anniversary of practical speleology in Rožňava, it also informs us about jubilees of our cavers and the SSS web-site as well, and brings on samples of caving musical and literary creations.
