Summary

The first issue of SSS bulletin in 2013 begins as usual with the recapitulation of activities of the Slovak Speleological Society in the previous year. After the introductory summarizing report about the activity of the organization, accomplished events and results achieved in particular areas of its functioning written by the chairman of SSS B. Kortman; reports of individual caving clubs follow. There is an overview of the indicators of their activity, the annual financial report of 2012 and the proposal of the budget for 2013. This part of the bulletin is closed by the chart of the longest and deepest caves and chasms in the Slovak Republic, compiled by J. Tencer.

The bulletin continues with three contributions in which the authors present some of the newest results of speleological exploration, research and documentation of caves in Slovakia. Till present time, their number has reached almost 6,700. J. Psotka in the first article describes discovery methods in Prievanová Diera Cave, which has recently become the longest cave on Plešivec Plateau in the Slovak Karst, thank to cavers from several SSS clubs. This cave has previously been marked as non-important. A similar change happened to the Pec Cave in the Plavecký Karst (Little Carpathians Mts.) last year, as it is described in the following article by M. Velšmid.

Three newly discoverd caves in the Barborina Valley, the Low Tatra Mts., were recorded in the Chart of Caves of the Slovak Republic – Barborina Cave, Glatzova Chasm and Jaskyňa bystrických jaskyniarov Cave (The Cave of Bystrica Cavers). The author of the article about the new caves, P. Huťka is similarly to the authors of the previous articles one of their discoverers. In the following contribution we will travel from Slovakia to southern France, more exactly to Baume des Jalabres Cave in limestone massif l´ Obiou in Western Alps. Slovak cavers M. Jagerčíková,
M. Hurtaj, M. Jagerčík and a Frenchman L. Mocochain deal with a curious discovery of crystallinic pebbles in this cave. An adventurous travel to Kenya including a visit to the volcanic caves Kitum Cave and Macingeny Cave within Mt. Elgon National Park is described in the next article by M. Pancuráková and R. Košč. As the conclusion of the magazine of Slovak cavers the editorial staff offers Caving News, New Books and Social News.
