Summary

This issue of the Bulletin as usual presents up-to-date address book of Slovak Speleological Society for the year 2013. It is followed by an article written by O. Miháľová about this year Speleomeeting, a traditional event of SSS, where over 200 speleologists and supporters of speleology from Slovakia and abroad participated. The article is supplemented by the programme of Speleomeeting and an overview of prizes granted to Slovak cavers for successful results reached in speleological exploration in domestic and foreign karst areas.

Slovenský Raj Mts. (Slovak Paradise) is a part of Spiš-Gemer Karst. There the third longest cave system in Slovakia is situated: Stratenská Cave – Psie Diery Cave (more than 22 km) and the world-famous Dobšinská Ice Cave can be found there as well. F. Miháľ writes about the karst forms on Geravy Plateau in Slovak Paradise Mts., while he pays special attention to Jatky Abyss, which is an important archeological and paleonthological locality. The author of the following two articles concerning speleological, respectively montanistical research in Malá Fatra Mts. is P. Cvacho: in one of them he writes about and provides some pictures of the seasonal ice cave in snow avalanche in Belská Valley; the other one describes mining adit in asphalt quarry near Varín village. Exploration of siphons in Krásnohorská Cave on Silická Plateau in Slovak Karst with the use of an original method, so called Abonyi test, in the past and at present is described by J. Stankovič. D. Hutka, who has already written several articles on history of speleodiving on Muránska Plateau and in Tisovec Karst, published in SSS Bulletin, this time deals with the history od speleodiving exploration of Hradná resurgence on Muránska Plateau. In the following contribution he together with M. Uhrin inform about the activities of the members of Caving club in Tisovec, which are related to observing and research of bats in local caves in the past. P. Holúbek chose an unusual topic for his article this time – destiny of caver’s dogs. In the following contribution a collective of authors describes the course and summarizes the results of several expeditions of Slovak cavers to karst areas of Macedonia (Jakupica Mts.) and Kosovo (Prokletje Mts.) in 2012. At the end of this extensive article a register of the deepest caves discovered by Slovak cavers abroad is listed. The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of French Speleological Federation (FFS) and the participation of Slovak cavers at the side events including the meeting of the commitee of European Speleological Federation (FSE) in Millau in France are described by P. Magdolen, vice-chairman of SSS. The same author together with A. Lačný inform about the course of the 2nd year of caving school for the public, which was organised in Borinský Karst in the Little Carpathians Mts. by speleological clubs from Bratislava and Trnava. His participation at the implementation of the project of The Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology, financed from Structural Funds of the EU is evaluated by M. Lisý. P. Herich and J. Špak contemplate about the relationship of man – nature and the cave, respectively cavers – caves in the past and at present. The Bulletin is closed by the memories of M. Velič about his activity in caving club Dubnica nad Váhom, one of the oldest caving clubs in Slovakia and Social news – congratulations to members of SSS celebrating their jubilees, as well as the obituary of Dr. Anton Droppa (1920 – 2013), an important Slovak speleologist and honorary member of Slovak Speleological Society.
