Summary

The magazine of Slovak cavers in this issue brings the news from the activity of clubs and individuals within the Slovak Speleological Society (SSS) as well as outside of it, but also other interesting information can be found in the bulletin. The 54th Caving Week of the SSS was organized this year by the members of Caving Club Speleo Turiec in the Great Fatra Mts. Almost 150 cavers mostly from Slovakia, but also from the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary participated in it. P. Pokrievka Jr. writes about the course of events of this successful happening in his article, which is accompanied by some photographs, too. L. Vlček evaluates the 16th International Congress of Speleology in Brno from the point of view of a direct participant and the representative of the SSS at this top event of cavers from all over the world. His article is followed by a report about the course of post-congress excursions in Slovakia, which were prepared and managed for the registered participants of the Congress by the members of the Slovak Speleological Society and employees of Slovak Caves Administration and Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology. The following articles cover the topic of speleological exploration and research in Slovakia. The first of them, written by B. Kortman and J. Kasák brings clear information about the biggest cave system on Strážov Mt., as well as the whole Strážov Mts; the article is accompanied by the maps of caves created in mapping software Therion. The results of speleological exploration, its possibilities and perspectives in a part of karst area of the Low Tatra Mts. on Ohnište massif in Jánska Valley are sketched by D. Haršaník, Z. Kosejová briefly informs about the results of research in Píla Cave in Tribeč Mts., which was aimed at the fauna of invertebrates. T. Pajtina writes about the cooperation of members of caving club from Žilina during the research in the underground of an important architectural monument in this city – the synagogue, that was designed and projected in 1928 by a world famous German architect
P. Behrens and at present the building is being reconstructed. Atta Höhle, one of the most famous show caves in Germany engaged the attention of A. Petrvalská. After her article an interesting text, taken from Kozmos magazine about the alleged caves on the Moon and Mars follows. In the News section there is an article about a Polish-Moroccan-Slovak expedition, operating this year also in Slovakia, an article about the prototype of hypobaric chamber, made by Slovak caver M. Lisý and another one about the events organized by Caving Club Strážovské vrchy (Strážov Mts.), aimed at the presentation of caves and caving to public. D. Hutka informs about the following meeting of speleodivers and cavers in Tisovec, J. Kosej about the 40-year history of Regional Caving Group Tribeč of the Slovak Speleological Society. The bulletin is concluded by Social News as usual, after which follows the summary and information about the films of a famous Slovak adventurer, cameraman and director Pavol Barabáš with the topic of caves and cavers in Slovakia and in the world on DVDs.
