SUMMARY

In the introduction of the 2nd issue of the Bulletin of the Slovak Speleological Society in 2014 the reader can find the current address book of the SSS as usual. After that follows the information presented by the new chairman of the SSS Peter Holúbek about the process and results of the 17th General Assembly of the SSS in April this year and an article written by O. Miháľová about Speleomeeting 2014, a traditional event organised in the town Svit under the High Tatras, in which participated up to 200 cavers and caving enthusiasts from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland. The article is accompanied with a programme of the Speleomeeting and an overview of the awards, which were given to Slovak cavers for successful results acquired during speleological exploration in Slovak karst areas as well as abroad, and also for their presentation in publications and at this event. This topic or theme is processed in the following contributions, too. Two of them are continuations of the articles published in previous issues of the Bulletin. J. Dubravay presents new discoveries in the famous Crystal Cave under Rozsutec Mt. near Terchová village not far from Vrátna Valley in the Malá Fatra Mts. F. Radinger writes about the discovery of the prolongation of Divín Castle Cave under Divín Castle in Revúcka Highlands. Both articles also contain current maps of the described caves. The following three contributions are also aimed at the discoveries of caves not known until now and bring their maps, too. It is Jaskyňa tridsiatich jazvecov (Cave of 30 Badgers) at Muránska Plateau, which was discovered by cavers from Speleoclub Tisovec, Jaskyňa strateného prsteňa (Lost Ring Cave) in Starohorské Mts. near Banská Bystrica, in which its discoverers found an old mining adit and findings from the period of WWII and the discovery and map of the third cave in the town Liptovský Mikuláš is presented by the author from this town, P. Herich. He is also the author of an interesting article about the history and present state of the caves in Demänovská Valley in the Low Tatras, which nowadays create the longest cave system in Slovakia with the length of almost 40 kilometres. Before reading this article, readers of the Bulletin are invited for a short winter walk in the karst of Čierna hora Mts. in the east of Slovakia by A. Renčko. P. Horváth, who died already, remembers his experiences and tales from the life among cavers from Rožňava in the Slovak Karst. The following article by I. Kráľ is a reminiscence of a tragedy that happened 25 years ago in one of the deep caves of the Western Caucasus (V. Pantjuchin Cave) in Abkhazia during the expedition of Slovak and Georgian cavers. The course of recently medialised rescue operation in cave system Riesending-Schachthöhle in the Bavarian Alps not far from Berchtesgaden in Germany is described in detail by L. Vlček, who right in the following article contemplates about the value of human life and its rescue not only in caves. Versatile activities of a caver, pedagogue and artist from Tisovec Bedřich Polák are described by two contemporary speleologists, one of which was his disciple. A short memory is devoted to the caver Vojtech Bukovinský who died 25 years ago. Information about some activities of cavers in Slovakia and Europe this year can be found in the section called Current News before Social News at the end of the Bulletin. In the Current News part, the third year of Speleoschool for the public organised in Borinský Karst not far from Bratislava is evaluated as successful by P. Magdolen and A. Lačný, the following news inform about an event called Zelená modrá (Green Blue) in the Strážov Mts. and Pružinská Dúpna Cave in Slovakia, Speleoforum 2014 in Moravian Karst in the Czech Republic, 9th EuroSpeleo Forum in Romania and brief information about newly published books on speleology in Slovakia is also present.
